Trending is a feature that highlights articles that are currently being talked about on Current News. It can be anything from a hot new political issue to the latest celebrity news. The article will be listed with its headline and the headline will be highlighted in a bold font and a special background color to show that it is being discussed. The feature is often seen on 24-hour news channels where live programming may be interrupted at any time to report breaking news. The breaking news feature is also sometimes known as a newsflash or special report and, until the advent of 24-hour cable and satellite news networks, was generally reserved for extremely urgent events that required nationwide coverage such as the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
