When news occurs that warrants an interruption of non-news programming (or, in the case of some national network broadcasts, regularly scheduled newscasts), a special graphics package is used to inform viewers that the program is being replaced by a breaking news story. A countdown sequence is often used, followed by the network feed kicking in. Then a graphic, with distinctive music cues, is displayed and an anchor begins to talk about the breaking news event.
