Trending is a segment of NPR Current News that talks about stories that are trending across the country and around the world. It’s a look at the news that’s on everyone’s mind. Today on the program: * The death of a Utah woman whose body was found with fentanyl in 2022. * How attacks on gas facilities in Israel and Iran are impacting global markets. * A New York Times investigation alleges that the late renowned labor leader Cesar Chavez sexually abused girls and raped Dolores Huerta, his longtime organizing partner.

Until the advent of 24-hour news channels, television and radio stations interrupted regular programming only for breaking events that elicited nationwide coverage and required numerous stations to interrupt their schedules. This was usually done through an alert crawl or a “newsflash” graphic, and it could require the station to pause their network feed so that affiliates can join them at the appropriate time. Increasingly, broadcasters use a Special Report ticker during regularly scheduled programming to provide analysis and reduce the need for break-ins.
