Trending is a section on a television news program that highlights stories that are currently being talked about by viewers, reporters and other media outlets. Often, these trends are related to specific events that have occurred or are in the process of happening. When a story is in the trending section, it means that it has generated a lot of interest in social media and other forms of media.
The term “trending” is also used in some places to refer to a breaking news story, especially one that warrants interruption of non-news programming and/or regular network newscasts for an exclusive network special report.
