Current News is a television and radio program in which the newscasting network interrupts regular non-news programming to cover an urgent breaking event that requires immediate coverage. This type of news coverage is commonly known as a “Newsflash” or a “Special Report”. When a Breaking News event occurs that warrants the interruption of regular programing, network affiliates are asked to pause their local broadcast and stand by for a feed from the national newscast. The national newscast will then open with a distinctive opening graphic and music cue, accompanied by an audible alert that tells viewers the breaking news story is about to be covered.
