Trending talks about the current news that are trending.
Breaking news is a report on an event that requires immediate, extensive or sustained coverage. Breaking news stories often cause programs to be interrupted by a network feed, with the network alerting its affiliates to standby for the breaking story. If the event is so urgent that it warrants an interruption of regular programming, a news anchor may be introduced through a graphic and a distinctive music cue, or a countdown sequence may be used to allow stations to switch over to the national network feed. Alternatively, lower thirds or other graphics may be altered to convey the urgency of the situation.
