Whether you’re watching a network newscast, listening to your local radio station or surfing the internet, you’re bound to come across the term “breaking news.” It’s not always clear what’s actually meant by this term.
The term is sometimes referred to as “late breaking news.” Unlike a news report, which may last a few minutes, breaking news may occur hours or even days after the event has occurred.
In general, breaking news is usually used to describe the most important story of the moment. In addition to news reporting, breaking news also includes the use of social media to inform viewers about the story.
A breaking news story may be related to a recent event or an old story that has recently received fresh attention. The story may be a political scandal, election, or other highly anticipated event.
It may also refer to a live anchor, or a program that has recently been interrupted for an important story. For instance, the April 2017 Shayrat missile strike on Iran disrupted a new episode of ABC’s Scandal.
An example of a breaking news story may be the latest update from NASA on the success of its Artemis 1 mission. This spacecraft has traveled 1.3 million miles around the moon and is sending back incredible new pictures of the moon’s surface.
For more information on the breaking news of the day, check out the news section on the network’s website. You’ll find links to local newspapers and radio stations, as well as links to other news outlets.
