For the past nine years, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has been awarded the INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award. This award recognizes colleges and universities that demonstrate sustained commitment to student development. During this year’s Homecoming, SIUE celebrated with alumni and community members.
At SIUE’s annual Digital Humanities Student Showcase, students displayed their innovative work with digital tools. The event also included a keynote speech and musical performance. It was a great opportunity for students and faculty to see the innovative work of other students.
This year’s event featured a special collection of historical research from the Douglas and Betty Noverr Collection of Walt Whitman’s Journalism. As part of the event, the SIUE School of Engineering joined with the Enterprise Holdings Foundation to make a $1.5 million donation for the renovation of the atrium in the Engineering Building.
After a night of celebration, the SIUE community came together to wish the students good luck on their first semester of the 2022 academic year. Chancellor James T. Minor hosted a late-night breakfast for the students. And the school’s East St. Louis Learning Resource Center has plans to provide free diapers to those in need.
Several SIUE faculty members were also featured in recent publications. Vicki Van Tuyle is an associate professor of educational leadership, and Kedra Tolson is an academic marketing expert. Currently, these two professors are on the ISLPP (Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program) Selection Committee.
SIUE is now gearing up for winter break. The school will observe the break from December 23 to January 2.
