If you’ve been following the news recently, you may have noticed that television news is being transformed. Many of the major news networks are now offering their programming as streaming. This means viewers can watch the news when it comes to them. However, the new format looks and feels much like conventional TV.
The major news networks have seen a lot of success with their streaming service, and they hope to make more of it. As a result, they’re investing hundreds of millions of dollars in these operations. But before these companies can capitalize on their successes, they must avoid overhyping the technology.
Streaming news is an attempt to reduce the scarcity inherent in the media equation. While cable television has long held a monopoly on local and national coverage, streaming news can reach any viewer. In fact, 85 percent of American households subscribe to at least one streamer.
These streaming programs offer a variety of features. For example, viewers can block topics they don’t want to hear about, and they can express their opinions. Also, viewers can follow trending topics. They can view recent news articles or news from the past two years.
Some people believe that online video streaming will attract a new influx of overtly political news operations. This could have a dramatic impact on the way political news is covered.
However, there is one important difference between streaming and cable. Unlike cable, online video won’t be bound by restrictive TV licenses. That means it won’t have to worry about expensive negotiations with cable companies.
