Congresswoman calls for end to ICE ahead of Trump’s State of the Union

Rep. Lamonica McIver, D-NJ, says the federal agency under President Donald Trump is “totally out of control.”

Current News is a segment of a television or radio broadcast that interrupts the regular programming to present an event that has occurred. When a story is breaking, the station will usually issue an alert for its affiliates to stand by. Once the network feed is live, a countdown sequence is used to allow the affiliated stations to switch over and join the national broadcast. Typically, the breaking news report will be presented by a news anchor. If the news event is especially significant, a special report may be aired over regular programming to provide more in-depth coverage. This is common for extremely severe weather events such as tornadoes or hurricanes. Other examples include the assassination of John F. Kennedy or the Challenger explosion. In recent years, many networks have started to use lower thirds that can be overlaid during a Breaking News segment, reducing the need for the interruption.
