Following a meeting of NATO allies ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin pledged more military support to Ukrainian forces to combat a renewed Russian offensive. Austin went on to say that Russian President Vladimir Putin thought Ukraine “was an easy target” but that countries around the world have rallied around “Ukraine’s fight for freedom.”

Current News is an interruption of current non-news programming and, in some cases, regularly scheduled newscasts on broadcast television for the purpose of reporting breaking news. It typically consists of an opening graphic (such as one featuring music, such as NBC’s “The Pulse of Events”) and an announcement from the network anchor or news department that it is time to cut in.
In the past, this coverage of breaking news was usually limited to the most significant and important stories, such as the death of a notable political figure or severe weather event. More recently, however, the term has been expanded to cover a wide range of topics, including news about sports, political matters, business, crime and even entertainment.
Breaking news on broadcast networks commonly consists of an opening graphic that is designed to convey a sense of urgency and then a live shot of the anchor or news department, which may be interrupted from time to time to pass the coverage to reporters covering the event in person. Details about the story are sketchy at first, and it is typical for the news anchor or reporter to say that more will be revealed as they become available.
When the newscast has ended, the network or local station will remind viewers that more details can be found on their late local newscast and the network’s overnight news program if applicable, and to go to the network’s website for additional information. Often, local stations will also air a special news report in their evening local newscasts as well.
