Trending is a feature that highlights stories on Current News that are currently being discussed on social media. These are articles that have a large number of views and shares on social platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Breaking news is an event that interrupts regular non-news programming (or, in the case of national network newscasts, a regularly scheduled news program). If an event warrants breaking news coverage it will be interrupted by the network broadcaster with a special graphic and a distinctive music cue. This is common for events that are deemed to be urgent, such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and was the original inspiration for 24-hour news networks. The same technique may also be used by radio and television stations to provide long-form, continuous, coverage of severe weather events, eliminating the need for cut-ins during normal programming.
The US-Israeli war with Iran could close the Strait of Hormuz, driving up oil prices. CBS News takes a look at the impact.
