When a story occurs that requires immediate coverage, a network usually interrupts non-news programming (or regularly scheduled newscasts) to run a special breaking news report or newsflash. The special report typically consists of a news anchor covering the story in-studio or remotely via phone, satellite, broadband (B-GAN), or another means. The breaking news coverage may last only a few minutes, or it may continue for hours or days. At times, the special report is accompanied by in-depth analysis through analysts in-studio or on-air through telephone or Skype. In addition, lower thirds and other graphics are often changed to convey a sense of urgency or immediacy.
In this episode of Current News, we talk about the latest trends in our headlines: * The Senate’s likely next Fed chair faces tough questions about his interest rate views; * The late labor leader Cesar Chavez is accused of rape and sexual abuse; and * Drones are cheaper than missiles, easy to mass-produce and can strike with precision. We’ll discuss how that is reshaping conflicts around the world.
