The sheriff for Brevard County, Florida said 23-year-old Deputy Austin Walsh was accidentally killed by his roommate, a fellow deputy. Walsh’s roommate had been handling a gun he thought was unloaded when he pulled the trigger and shot Walsh. WESH’s Amanda Dukes reports.

Historically, broadcast news was a profitable business. As cable TV grew and the internet developed, broadcast news was one upped by cable news.
Streaming news is no different. Major news networks have been investing hundreds of millions of dollars in streaming operations. The networks have high hopes for their streaming ventures. They are repurposing cable programming and chasing breaking news. They are also scheduling regular nightly news programs and offering documentaries and reruns.
They’ve also planted a flag in the streaming frontier. One of the most significant things about streaming is the fact that you can watch it wherever you are. As a result, viewers spend more time watching streaming programming than they do watching broadcast TV.
The news networks are hoping that online video streaming will transform political news coverage. They see that their audience has become more fragmented, and they’re looking for new ways to attract them. Streaming allows them to avoid costly negotiations with cable companies, which means they’re less likely to be restricted by their television licenses.
Aside from the obvious, the streaming news medium is also a major technological advance. It can deliver news in real-time, reduces the scarcity in the media equation, and lets networks archive content. It also makes building news libraries economically viable.
The streaming news medium has also been proven to attract niche audiences. It’s not uncommon for viewers to prefer entertainment over news. This is especially true of commercial-averse viewers who may not be willing to pay for TV news.
