Streaming news has been a boon to audiences. In fact, it has been proven that audiences spend more time watching streaming programming than broadcast TV.
Streaming has also been a boon for news networks. They have been able to archive and repurpose their programs, making it easy to deliver content at a moment’s notice. And the major news networks have been investing hundreds of millions of dollars in their streaming operations.
With streaming, viewers can customize their viewing experience. They can choose to watch a particular news segment or follow a specific trending topic. Some networks also offer reruns and news analysis.
Unlike broadcast or cable television, streaming news is available everywhere. This means it isn’t restricted by cable company contract terms. Additionally, it allows viewers to choose the quality of their video experience.
For example, viewers can watch the latest election results and block out topics that don’t interest them. On top of that, they can also express their opinions. Streaming news has proven to attract niche audiences.
While commercial-averse viewers may not subscribe to television news, they might be more likely to pay for online video. This is because it isn’t bound by cable companies’ expensive negotiations.
Streaming has also been embraced by universities. SIUE has recently received a special collection of historical research on Walt Whitman’s journalism. It’s also home to the Douglas and Betty Noverr Collection of Walt Whitman’s Journalism.
The University’s Digital Humanities Student Showcase celebrated student work using digital methods and tools. Students’ innovative projects were showcased in the fall.
