The Digital Humanities Student Showcase was hosted at the IRIS Center for the fall semester, and students used digital tools to show off their innovative work. Five winners were recognized, and they all used nostalgia to engage audiences.
This year, 10 students were selected for the Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program. They are from communities across Illinois. Some are from large districts, while others come from small ones. Each of them were chosen because of their passion for education. These students will be mentored by Vicki Van Tuyle, associate professor of educational leadership at SIUE, and will take on the position of an aspiring principal by December 2022.
Throughout the semester, students have been involved in a wide variety of events and festivities. For instance, the SIUE East St. Louis Learning Resource Center is giving away diapers. On Homecoming, the school hosted an in-person event and a virtual one. A late-night breakfast was also held for students.
In addition to the events and activities, the University is also celebrating Native Heritage Month. The community came to campus and wished the students well on their semester, as well as for the opening of the Fall 2022 semester.
During the fall semester, SIUE is celebrating its nine-year achievement of the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity. The awards are given to colleges and universities in the U.S. That honor recognizes universities that have made a sustained commitment to diversity and student affairs.
