Streaming news is a new era in media. Streaming allows viewers to view news anytime, anywhere. It also cuts the cost of building news libraries. In addition, streaming allows viewers to customize their news experiences.
In the past, TV news was a linear experience that lived on the airwaves. It was a profitable business. However, viewers were frustrated with the low quality and high cost of products. As a result, new players entered the marketplace.
Streaming news services, however, are beginning to promote cable-quality news. The free news streamers are essentially telling viewers that they can cut their cable subscription in order to get their news.
Streaming news is also attracting new, niche audiences. The major streaming networks repurpose cable programming to offer news analysis and documentaries. They also schedule regular nightly news programs. These are complemented by country pages that provide local news from around the world. The news section also includes links to local radio and TV stations.
The streaming approach also provides more timely news delivery. This is especially important as we enter a new era of heightened stress. The pandemic and financial pressures have created new levels of stress among higher education staff around the world.
The major news networks have high hopes for streaming. These include CBS News, which plans to televise 45,000 hours of local news in 2022. Also, NBC News Now, which provides 10 hours of programming a day, has a youthful audience.
