Breaking News refers to a news event that warrants an interruption of non-news programming (or in some cases, regularly scheduled newscasts). The news will be announced by a network affiliate’s feed, with a countdown sequence used to allow stations to switch over. This will often start with a graphic and a distinctive music cue. News anchors will then introduce the story at hand, while lower thirds and other graphics may be altered to convey a sense of urgency.
