Trending is a segment on Current News that talks about stories that are currently being discussed and talked about on social media platforms like Facebook. The segments are usually short and include a picture with the story along with text. This is a common feature on 24-hour news networks. Breaking news is an emergency event that requires a broadcaster to interrupt its regular programming (or, in some cases, its network feed) to provide live coverage. Prior to the advent of 24-hour news networks, such interruptions were rare; only major events eliciting nationwide coverage would prompt a station to interrupt programming in order to provide breaking news. This often includes a special graphic and a countdown sequence, telling affiliates to stand by and to switch over to the network’s feed.
In this week’s Trending, we hear about an investigation into allegations that the late labor leader Cesar Chavez abused children and raped Dolores Huerta. Also, how unmanned drones are reshaping conflicts in Ukraine and elsewhere.
