About Trending

Breaking news, also known as Newsflash or Special report, is an interrupting news story involving a current event of high importance that requires immediate attention and must be delivered in short-form. Before 24-hour news networks became common, breaking news events often interrupted regular non-news programming (or, in the case of a national network, the newscast itself). A countdown sequence may be displayed before the interruption, followed by an opening graphic with a distinctive music cue. Depending on the story, lower thirds and other graphics are often altered to convey urgency. Often, the breaking news will also be reported by anchors in-studio, via satellite or through other means.
