Trending

A news item that is gaining popularity or attention, and may be discussed in the media. It could be a celebrity’s new album, an interesting piece of research or something going viral on social media. It might even be a landslide or earthquake – an event that demands nationwide coverage and requires stations to interrupt current non-news programming (or, in the case of networks with 24-hour news channels, their regular newscasts). Such interruptions are usually accompanied by a distinctively themed newsflash or special report graphic and station identification overlaid on the lower thirds or other graphics.
