After six months developing in its mother’s pouch, a rare tree kangaroo joey is beginning to peek outside at its home in the Chester Zoo.
The fall Digital Humanities Student Showcase was a celebration of students’ innovation using digital tools. Using a combination of social media, web analytics, and video storytelling, SIUE students were honored for their efforts.
The most notable feature of the digital humanities was its ability to tell a story in a unique way. Often, a digital humanities project will have a large number of stakeholders. Its aim is to communicate a complex topic to a wide audience.
There are many benefits to conducting a study using a digital humanities approach. Those include improved accessibility and communication, as well as better collaboration among researchers. However, a digital humanities study can also be expensive and time consuming, particularly if the research is conducted on an individual basis. This is especially true if the research involves collecting and analyzing data from various sources.
Another benefit of a digital humanities study is the plethora of metrics available. For example, a digital humanities study can yield statistics such as the number of pages read on a particular website, or the amount of money a user spent on a web page.
A digital humanities project can even produce useful insights on how to improve the quality of life of a particular population. An example of this is an analysis of a specific health care database identifying high-risk populations that require special attention. Using this information, a hospital can tailor its medical services and care to meet a patient’s unique needs.
