For nine consecutive years, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has received INSIGHT Into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award. This award recognizes higher education institutions that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and student affairs.
SIUE’s Educational Leadership program selected 10 students to participate in the ISLPP, or the Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program. These aspiring administrators come from all over the state, and include students from northern to southern Illinois. They will be preparing to begin the 2022 fall semester.
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will observe winter break starting on December 23, and the school will be reopening on January 3. During this time, the college will be hosting an in-person event, as well as a virtual event. The college will also kick off Native Heritage Month with a ceremony.
During the Fall Digital Humanities Student Showcase, the IRIS Center hosted a special event to celebrate the innovative work of students using digital tools. Five students won awards for their entries. One of the winners was Morgen Ryan Schroeder, a first-year student who had a goal of becoming a police officer.
Other notable events of the past year include the passing of Loretta Lynn and Queen Elizabeth II. Additionally, there was a fatal automobile accident in Louisiana that resulted in the death of Emily Allen.
Many people are unaware of the work of university faculty. As a result, much of the work goes unheralded. Luckily, university faculty are also doing important research and educating our communities.
