Authorities say Christopher Jean Baptiste fatally shot his fiancée’s father and wounded her mother and sister before turning the gun on himself. Police say Baptiste had an argument with his fiancée about her family living with them at a Fall River, Massachusetts, residence. WJAR’s Jodi Reed reports.

Streaming news has been around for a decade. In that time, the major networks have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in creating streaming operations. These new outlets offer a variety of programming, including documentaries and regular nightly news programs. They also archive content, making it available to viewers at any time.
Historically, broadcast news has been a profitable business. But cable TV one-upped the old model by incorporating live events into its coverage. Eventually, CNN and MSNBC emerged. But they did not attract viewers. Their critics missed the rapid rate at which cable’s adoption was happening.
In the meantime, Fox entered the news-streaming arena. Its new app, Fox Nation, has already attracted 1.5 million subscribers. That is a pretty good indication that a commercial-averse audience will be willing to pay for streaming content.
ABC News Internet Ventures, a division of ABC News, is another news outlet that has entered the news-streaming business. It produces 10 hours of programming each day. It also provides local news coverage. In addition, the network has partnered with local radio stations to provide live streamed news.
The CBS network has also started a local news strategy. It plans to beam 45,000 hours of local news in 2022. It picked up local coverage of the Sacramento shooting and piped it to its streaming audience.
Free news streamers have similar strategies to cable. They want to promote cable-quality news. In return, they hope to earn a share of the $3 billion profit that the major news networks will make in 2020.
