Streaming news is fast-growing. With streaming, news travels wherever the viewer is. It looks like conventional TV and combines the news experience with video documentaries, news analysis, and more.

In the streaming frontier, news networks are planting a flag. These include Cheddar, Newsmax, and Al Jazeera. These channels repurpose programming from broadcast and cable.

When the news breaks, a breaking news anchor introduces the news and may be joined by other network talent. The anchor may use a live shot of the anchor, or may cut away to a video of the story. The anchor reminds the viewer that the full story will air on local news.

When the news coverage ends, the network may restart programming, or it may pause for a few seconds to reset the coverage. At this time, a news sheet is often shown, and it could be preserved for future reference.

Networks may also integrate the story into their coverage, or suspend commercial advertising for sustained coverage. They may also alter the lower thirds to convey a sense of urgency.

If coverage lasts more than a few minutes, the network may switch to a reverse countdown. This is usually from five seconds. After the countdown is reset, the opening graphic may roll again.

Networks will also often break into reruns when coverage ends. This could mean a segment of a program wasn’t aired, or the program was moved to a later time. It could also mean the network has to replay the entire program or reschedule it.
