Current News is a term used to describe the latest news that is happening in the world today. This can include the latest breaking news about politics, sports, business, science, health, and more.
Breaking news is a form of late-breaking news that broadcasters feel warrants interruption of scheduled programming to report the details of a story. It can also refer to a special report or news flash.
Generally, the format of breaking news is to start off with an opening graphic featuring a live shot of a news anchor and/or music (such as NBC’s “The Pulse of Events” or a similar song) that reflects the importance of the event. Then, the anchor will introduce the story and explain that it will continue to be reported throughout the broadcast as it continues, often by a reporter who is onsite at the site of the event.
In addition, there may be a brief warning for viewers that more information will be available later on their local newscast and on the network’s evening or morning news program, if applicable. Depending on the length of the coverage, segments or programs pre-empted by a breaking news story may be re-joined in progress or started back up at the point of the interruption, if time allows.
In addition to a live shot of the anchor, the opening and closing graphics, lower thirds, and voiceovers will be modified to give viewers a sense of urgency and alertness. This is especially true on the 24-hour news channels.
