A divide is growing within the Republican party over H-1B visas that allow U.S. companies to hire foreign talent for special jobs. NBC News’ Jon Allen explains why the program is causing a rift in the GOP.

Until the advent of 24-hour news networks, network television and radio stations typically interrupted non-news programming for breaking news events such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy. In such cases, a network will usually interrupt its current non-news program, and issue an alert to its affiliates to “stand by.” A special breaking news graphic may then be displayed on the screen, with a distinctive music cue and a countdown sequence for affiliated stations to join the network feed. Lower thirds or other graphics may also be altered to convey a sense of urgency.
