Current News is the information relating to current events, often breaking news. This may be a national news story or local news in the immediate vicinity of the event.
Breaking News
In television, a breaking news is an interruption of a network’s or a station’s non-news programming to report on a breaking news event. The format commonly consists of a countdown to an opening graphic (which is also usually played in reverse to allow any affiliated stations to join the feed), followed by a news anchor or cameraperson introducing the breaking news and highlighting its significance.
The most notable element of this type of coverage is its ability to bring viewers closer to the news in an instant than they might otherwise be able to experience. This is done by incorporating video or imagery of the event that can be viewed live and passed to a reporter for additional information or analysis.
Radio
Traditionally, radio stations have been very careful to limit their breaking news coverage to the most important stories and to keep their bulletins short in order to avoid overloading the listener with excessive information. This is especially true of sports programs, where breaking news often takes place during play-by-play broadcasts that are the most listened to.
Occasionally, an unusual event or news item warrants an “extended edition” of an existing program, which may be joined in the middle or re-joined at the end of the breaking news report depending on the time slot, ratings and time left to air it before it is interrupted. This is often accompanied by a disclaimer stating that more details are available on the network’s website or on a station’s own news program, if applicable.
