The headline is often the most important story in a newspaper. Often the headline is the biggest, boldest print on the centerfold, designed to capture the attention of potential buyers. Similarly, trending news is more reader-centric, depending on how many people read a particular web-page. While a story that is generating a lot of buzz may trend well, it may have little real world impact. So how does one spot trending news?

Breaking news stories can interrupt prime time programming, particularly when it involves new programming or highly rated shows. The latest example of this occurred during a Scandal episode in April 2017.

The government of Sri Lanka announced a two-week shutdown of public offices and schools, as a result of the acute fuel shortage. Public transportation also ground to a halt due to a lack of dollars. Meanwhile, the Public Administration ministry ordered skeleton services for commuters as a measure to alleviate the acute fuel shortage. And in news that is not all bad, the US Food and Drug Administration has approved two COVID-19 vaccines for babies as young as six months.
