Trending Articles About Current News
Breaking news is a term used by television and radio stations for the broadcast of urgent current events that warrant immediate coverage. In North America, breaking news reports are often delivered via lower thirds, a graphic with a distinctive music cue or a countdown sequence to alert affiliates to switch to the network feed for a special report or to interrupt their own programming. Before the advent of 24-hour news channels, breaking news was usually limited to major events that would elicit nationwide coverage and require numerous stations to interrupt their regular programs. Examples include the assassination of John F. Kennedy and severe weather events.
