A break in programming is typically signaled by a countdown sequence to allow stations to switch over to the news feed. Breaking news coverage may be short-form or long-form, and may involve in-studio or remote analysis of the situation. Also known as a Newsflash, a Special Report or a ticker (in North America), the Breaking News graphic is normally accompanied by a distinctive news anchor introduction and a special music cue.
