For the past nine years, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has received INSIGHT Into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award. The award is a national recognition of higher education institutions that promote diversity.
This fall, SIUE’s IRIS Center hosted a Digital Humanities Student Showcase to honor students’ innovative work using digital methods. Five winners were chosen and received awards. Their projects focused on nostalgia, engagement, and educating non-traditional students.
The next phase of the celebration begins with a virtual event on Jan. 3, 2022. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. One of the highlights will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Engineering Building atrium, which was renovated through a $1.5 million donation.
Additionally, there will be an opening ceremony for Native Heritage Month and a student welcome to the Fall 2022 semester. There will also be a breakfast for SIUE students to enjoy. In addition to welcoming new students to the campus, alumni and friends are invited to join the event.
Following the ceremony, the community will eat dinner together. A keynote speaker will be provided. All will then enjoy a musical performance. This is a special event that will bring the Edwardsville and surrounding communities together.
The event is free and open to the public. Visit the event’s website to learn more. With an award winning magazine, Currents, and newsletters published by CASE, it is easy to see how the institution is dedicated to promoting the success of its students.
