The current news on the block in the higher education community is a bit more mundane than you would expect. One reason is that the work of university faculty often goes unnoticed. Luckily for the students, SIUE is about to kick off a new semester with a bang.
To celebrate the occasion, the campus community is set to participate in the grandest of all events: a grand opening ceremony and the grandest of all events: a virtual homecoming.
The aforementioned event is likely to attract attendees from a wider swath of the university’s student body. Several alumni and friends are expected to attend. Meanwhile, the educational leadership program has selected 10 students to compete in the Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program.
While the obelisk may not be the name of a particular building, the item in question is a special collection of historical research that is slated to be placed in the East St. Louis Learning Resource Center. This will be the first of its kind at a public university in the state of Illinois.
Another aforementioned item is the IRIS Center’s fall Digital Humanities Student Showcase. This is a fun, yet awe-inspiring, competition where students showcase their innovation by using digital tools to conduct research.
The best part of the ceremony is the fact that attendees can actually see the results of their work. In addition to providing a look at what these future researchers have achieved, the event has the potential to attract the attention of politicians, which is a good thing.
