Current News is a news broadcast or news website that reports current events. Typically, it will be focused on the most significant or breaking news of the moment.

Breaking news is a term used by television and radio stations to describe a current story that requires interruption of the current programming in order to report on the details of it. The term is often accompanied by the graphic and phrase “just in”.

A breaking news event on television begins with a countdown of a few seconds allowing other network affiliates to join the broadcast feed and an opening graphics featuring a music score that highlights the event’s importance (such as NBC’s “The Pulse of Events”, composed by John Williams). Information is then disseminated via an internal alert system utilized by a station’s master control.

It may then switch to a news anchor who welcomes the viewer and introduces the breaking story at hand. The lower thirds and other graphics may also be altered to emphasize the significance of the event or tell a more detailed story.

The anchor may also remind viewers that there will be more details on their local news that day or a full wrap up on the network’s evening or morning news program if applicable, depending on the severity of the incident and how long it took to cover it. Usually, the anchor will make a reference to the story by mentioning it’s “bigger on the inside” and that there will be more details as they become available.
