Current News talks about the stories making headlines.

When an event occurs that warrants nationwide coverage, or in some cases, the interruption of regular programming, a “newsflash” or a “special report” may be aired. This often consists of a short segment, or a countdown sequence that alerts network affiliate stations to interrupt their own scheduled programing to the national network feed and begin reporting on the event. Depending on the importance of the story, lower thirds and other graphics may be altered to convey urgency. Breaking news was largely limited to severe weather events until the advent of 24-hour news networks, when it is common for major news stories to be reported in a live format.
