Trending is a segment on Current News that talks about what topics are popular on Social Media. It is a great way to stay up to date on what’s going on around the world and what people are talking about. In addition to trending topics, Current News will also cover breaking news events. A breaking news event is a current story of national importance that necessitates the interruption of non-news programming or, at network affiliates, regularly scheduled live newscasts. This type of news event is usually highlighted by a countdown sequence and distinctive graphic and music cue. In the pre-existence of 24-hour news networks, these break-ins were commonly used for stories of extreme urgency such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
