Trending talks about the stories that are currently getting the most attention on social media. It can be anything from a trending video to a popular meme. Unlike other sections of Current News, Trending does not contain breaking news or long-form coverage. Breaking news is a report on an event that necessitates the interruption of non-news programs (or, in some cases, of regular network newscasts). It is often preceded by a countdown, as well as a graphic or other alert crawl. A special report or newsflash may also be used, or, in the case of a major national event such as an assassination, the station ID of network affiliates may be overlaid during the coverage.
