About Trending
Drones are cheaper to mass-produce, more versatile, and more accurate than missiles — and they’re reshaping conflicts around the world. This week, NPR reports how drones are reversing the balance of power in Ukraine and Sudan and changing the way we think about war. Plus, an NPR investigation reveals that a woman accused of poisoning her husband with fentanyl was trying to collect millions in life insurance policies. Breaking news is a term that indicates an urgent event or story that requires the immediate interruption of non-news programming (or, sometimes, of regular, ongoing newscasts). The process of breaking news often involves alerting all stations to interrupt, usually by putting them on a countdown sequence so they can switch to the network feed. In addition, the station’s lower third and other graphics may be altered to add to the urgency. Prior to 24-hour news channels, national broadcasters generally only interrupted their regular programming for events that elicited nationwide coverage and required multiple stations to interrupt simultaneously.
