Breaking news is a television network report that interrupts regular non-news programming (or occasionally, live regularly scheduled newscasts) for immediate coverage of an urgent news event. This type of news reporting is most common on 24-hour news networks and may include an opening graphic, distinctive music cues, and a countdown to allow network affiliates to join the feed.
