Current News

In North America, when an event warrants breaking-news coverage on a national network television or radio station, the program is interrupted, and a graphic is shown with a distinctive music cue. A regular news anchor then welcomes viewers and introduces the story, which may be reported by a network reporter in-studio, on the phone, via satellite, broadband (B-GAN), or remotely from a remote location. The break from regularly scheduled programming can last just a few minutes, or hours or days for sustained coverage. In the case of severe weather, lower thirds and alert crawls are often used in place of cut-ins or full breaks from regular programming.

The FBI’s reopening of a probe into alleged child abuse by the late labor leader Cesar Chavez is a reminder of how easily the truth can be obscured. Plus, a Utah jury convicts the woman who fatally spiked her husband’s drink with fentanyl.
