Trending is an original news segment that looks at the latest stories making headlines. Unlike breaking news, which interrupts regular programming and uses a special graphics package, Trending features longer news segments that can be shown in their entirety. The segment has a distinctive opening graphic, with a countdown sequence and a unique music cue to signal its importance. Depending on the story, it may be followed by a reporter in-studio or through video links or live feeds from remote locations. It may last only a few minutes or continue for hours or days. During extended coverage, lower thirds are often altered to convey a sense of urgency.
