Trending is the name for a feature on the Current News homepage that talks about what is currently grabbing people’s attention. The feature will include popular trends on the site as well as a selection of articles that are getting a lot of traffic. It also shows the top ten articles based on readership.
Breaking news is an urgent news story that requires the interruption of regular non-news programming or, in the case of a network feed, to pause the current live broadcast and begin running a special report. This type of news event is normally limited to major events that elicit nationwide coverage and require numerous stations to interrupt their programs. Before 24-hour news networks, such interrupts were only used for extremely urgent or emergency situations, such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
