Trending is a weekly feature on Current News that talks about what’s hot on social media. This week’s topics include a teen that posed as a suicide bomber, a new app for streaming live concerts and more.
When an event happens that warrants interruption of regular non-news programming, a national network newscast will usually alert its affiliates to interrupt their own local broadcast with the network feed for the duration of the breaking story. This is often referred to as a newsflash or special report, and the network will typically provide an opening graphic with a distinctive music cue. Breaking news reports may also be used on 24-hour cable news channels, though such cuts were rarely seen before the assassination of John F. Kennedy, due to the expense of interrupting programming on non-news channels.
