What’s Trending
During breaking news events, network television and radio broadcasters interrupt non-news programming (or, in the case of regularly scheduled newscasts, pause their feed) to present live coverage of the event. Often, this will involve a graphic and a distinctive music cue to alert the audience to the interruption, along with a countdown for affiliates to join the network’s feed. Breaking news typically features an anchor in the studio, although some 24-hour news networks may use “Newsflash” or “Special Report” tickers to interrupt regular programming without an anchor present. Other formats may include a scrolling lower third, a station imaging promo, or a special newscast.
