Trending is the section of a newscast that talks about what’s going on in the world. It is usually followed by a short news summary and/or analysis of the story at hand, by an anchorperson or other host. It is commonly used to interrupt non-news programming on television, but can also be interrupted by a national network newscast (which will often pause briefly to allow its affiliates to switch over to the feed). Breaking news is traditionally accompanied by a countdown graphic and distinct music cue, in addition to a newsflash or special report ticker.
