Trending is a live news report or segment about current events, usually with an emphasis on topics that have become popular on social media and other websites. These reports are often overlaid on top of regular network programming, and are sometimes interrupted by breaking news events. Historically, such breaks were reserved for highly urgent and widespread coverage, such as the assassination of President John F.
