In television news broadcasting, breaking news is a report about an event that is of such urgency that it interrupts current non-news programming. The interruption may last for only a few minutes, or longer if an event is particularly significant. In a broadcast, a news anchor announces the breaking story, and may provide live analysis in the studio. In addition, a countdown sequence may appear, so that network affiliate stations can switch over to the break news feed at the appropriate time. This procedure is normally accompanied by a distinctive music cue, and lower third graphics often change to convey a sense of urgency. This type of coverage is also referred to as a newsflash or special report.

Joe Rogan talks about how the White House is fast-tracking research into psychedelic therapies, and Hallie Jackson visits a remote stretch of New Mexico to shed light on why Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch wasn’t searched sooner.
