The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) has joined forces with the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) to form a regional chapter in Virginia. It has also helped a committee dedicated to the topic of EM pain and procedure. In addition, AAEM is establishing new regional chapters in Maryland and Virginia.
