In the past, news was often provided by newspapers, but now, news can be provided via many different media. Some sources of news are referred to as “hard news” in order to differentiate them from “soft news.”
Various models have been developed to analyze the influence and content of news. The Mirror Model states that news should accurately reflect the world around us. The Organizational Model, sometimes called the Bargaining Model, focuses on applying pressure to governmental processes. Finally, the Political Model argues that news represents political pressures and ideologies.
Recent events in SIUE include the 2022 SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony and the fall 2022 enrollment record. This is a 44-year high, and the school also increased international enrollment by 67 percent over the previous fall. As of Sept. 22, SIUE has the second largest international enrollment of any college in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report.
A new assistant director for student conduct has been hired. She brings with her more than 20 years of experience in higher education. Previously, she served as the director of Student Life at Front Range Community College in Westminster, Colo., where she oversaw the day-to-day operations. She also recently competed in a Baja SAE (r) event at Tennessee Tech University.
