NBC’s Vaughn Hillyard interviewed old coworkers and colleagues of Kari Lake from her days as a popular local news anchor. They all agreed on one thing: They don’t recognize who she’s become.

What is Current News? This is news published within the last year. Generally, you can sort the articles by bolding the column headings. If you’re looking for news older than a year, you can click on “Archived News” to view news from the past two years. Breaking news, on the other hand, describes news stories that are currently occurring. Breaking news is often the focus of a live event or breaking news story.
Breaking news can take many forms. The network may continue to show a live shot of the anchor, while the local station may switch over to a video story. Occasionally, a reporter from the local station will be dispatched to cover a breaking event on location. When this happens, the reporter may share more information with viewers as it breaks. The anchors may also mention the network’s website or local cable news channels for more information.
Breaking news is frequently a thorn in the side of prime-time programming. Breaking news can interrupt critically-acclaimed television shows or new series. It can also interrupt highly-rated shows with little time left on the air. ABC’s April 2017 episode of Scandal was interrupted by a missile strike. During these times, the network often gives local stations the opportunity to break away from the network and join on “extended edition” coverage.
While the duration of a news report varies, the most sustained news events can last for days or even weeks. Some major news events can last days, such as the John F. Kennedy assassination (November 22, 1963) and the September 11 attacks. In addition to news coverage, television networks may incorporate analysis of the story. The analysts may be in the studio or by phone. The broadcasts may also suspend regular commercial advertisements. The quality of the news may be affected by a severe heat wave.
